Monopoly (GBA)

Monopoly (GBA) is a classic real-estate video game based that is an updated version of the board game on the Game Boy Advance. It was originally known as EX Monopoly and was developed by Mobile 21 and published by Takara in 2001 for Japan only. Take part in an exciting adventure with rich Uncle Pennybags and compete with other real-estate traders to see who goes bankrupt first. Stroll through Atlantic City and try and take control of all the streets and railroads as quickly as you can!
The core gameplay of Monopoly (GBA) is pretty much the direct conversion of the board game by Hasbro. In the video game version, there are around eight different (AI) characters in the game that you can choose to play against, each with their own distinct personality which will dictate how they make decisions in terms of purchasing real estate and so on. This makes for more interesting replays as different players in each playthrough will mean the outcome of the game will become drastically different.
Moving on to the more basic mechanics, each player will take a turn to roll the dice and start moving across the board. When a player arrives at a place, they can get the option to purchase the deeds to it. After claiming the deeds to a specific real estate, other players that land on it will be forced to pay you a certain amount of rent money. The goal is to make other players bankrupt from being unable to pay the rent eventually, and you can build houses and hotels to make the rent exponentially more expensive.
One of the highlights of the Game Boy Advance version of Monopoly is its capability to support online multiplayer (albeit only in Japan). When it comes to graphics, Monopoly (GBA) has a more vibrant feel to it with pseudo-3D graphics. The AI is a little bit slow when it comes to their turn, but the game is still very much enjoyable with its cleaner UI and upbeat BGM.
Overall, Monopoly (GBA) is an excellent board game that is even fun to play with AI opponents. Head on over to retrogames to play this one for free now.
